Situated at an altitude of 1800 metres, les Menuires benefits from a natural snow cover throughout the winter.
However, to guarantee a high quality ski area, and to reinforce the snow cover at the beginning and end of the season, Les Menuires has, for a long time, been at the forefront of artificial snow production.
For the season 2007-2008, the resort will have 408 snow making machines. The return by ski will be guaranteed down to the Bettex village thanks to the total equipment of the Bettex piste.
This means that 46% of the ski area is now covered by artificial snow making machines, making the ski area of Les Menuires/St Martin one of the highest positioned.
Two summits ( le Roc des 3 Marches and Le Mont de la Chambre) are covered with snow down to the resort of Les Menuires, guaranteeing a variation of fun over a drop of two times 1000 metres, and with several modern ski lifts.
The creation of snow is a huge job. Behind the artificial snow cover is a huge installation of snow making machines, with water retention areas, giant compressors and kilometres of pipe work.
This ultra modern artificial snow production, associated with the years of experience of our snow makers, ensures a perfectly managed snow production. Thus, the quantity of snow necessary to guarantee quality snow cover up to the end of the season, both in Les Menuires St Martin de Belleville is produced during the colder months of January and February. April’s snow is thus produced two months in advance. Nothing is left to chance.
